Excellent customer service. I have given it four stars as I expect to be back to give it a five star at some stage. This will be when I’ve been away and the people responsible to respond give their views when they compare to how it worked in the past. I am now confident it will be five stars because I have been given the attention I needed. A Wi Fi surveillance camera on your front porch, over your garage, or attached to your back deck can provide a peek at what really goes bump in the night, whether that’s someone stealing packages off your steps or raccoons going through garbage cans. You don’t have to invest in a multi million dollar surveillance system to keep an eye on your property and possessions.

It has outstanding detection capabilities and innovative alerts that let you know exactly what threat your home is facing and how to proceed. It’s intuitive to install and its high compatibility with third party products is a huge selling point as well. The only gripe we have is the relatively short warranty. The smoke sensor in the Nest Protect is different than any other smoke alarm we've looked at. The unit uses a split spectrum sensor, a special type of photoelectric sensor, which is designed to detect both smoky and flaming fires. The Nest Protect also has a built in a carbon monoxide sensor and will sound an alarm if it detects dangerous levels of the invisible, odorless gas which can be lethal if you breathe it for too long. To help cut down on false alarms from steam and burnt toast, the Nest Protect also uses humidity and heat sensors.

We’re looking for an economical, DIY security system with a loud alarm/siren to alert us when were sleeping And to alert us if there is an intruder when we’re not home. We’d love your input/ recommendations!Would also love your thoughts/advice on self monitoring vs using a security company to monitor. Many thanks!KelliHi Kelli, You’re very welcome and thanks for reading! There are a bunch of different companies that have sirens I recommend SimpliSafe. However, if you self monitor with SimpliSafe, you won’t be able to control your system remotely, livestream footage, or receive notifications. 24/7 professional monitoring would be better for a family where all adults work full time and wouldn’t have time to contact emergency services if an alarm goes off. However, if you have someone that stays at home, self monitoring should be fine. Ring Alarm also has a siren and you can self monitor and still control your system remotely and all that jazz, plus professional monitoring is super affordable. I’d check out this review of Ring vs. Simplisafe and let me know if you have any other questions!Every home is different, and so is every homeowner’s security needs. Like most technical services, you can pay for professionals to craft your home security system or you can take matters into your own hands. DIY home security means you customize your device kit, self install, and then monitor alerts from your sensors and video feed.
